- A self-emptying dock. A small robot bin fills fast with fur. A dock empties it after every run, so you change a bag every few weeks instead.

iRobot Roomba 105 Vac + AutoEmpty (US) / Roomba 115 Combo (UK)
ResearchedRoomba is the name most people reach for first, but for pet owners the Roborocks give more for less. In the US, the Roomba 105 Vac + AutoEmpty uses what iRobot calls a Multi-Surface bristle brush, and iRobot publishes no suction figure, only “70X more”. It costs $30 more than the Roborock Q7 M5+, which has an anti-tangle system and 10,000 Pa. In the UK, the Roomba 115 Combo has a charging dock but no self-emptying dock, and at £229 it costs £60 more than the Roborock Q7 L5+, which empties itself.

We compared seven robot vacuums from Roborock, Tapo and iRobot sold in the US and the UK, priced under about $280 / £230. The must-haves were an anti-tangle brush or a self-emptying dock, and LiDAR mapping. We then weighed price, using each maker’s own spec pages and US and UK store prices checked on 5 Oct 2026. The Tapo RV30 Max Plus is a reasonable alternative with a bigger dock, but Tapo doesn’t describe an anti-tangle brush and it costs more than our UK Pick.
Tested means we used it ourselves. Researched means we judged it from specs, independent tests, safety rules and owner reports, without using it. We never mark a researched pick as tested.
Questions
Do robot vacuums actually handle pet hair?
Yes for daily upkeep on hard floors and low rugs, as long as the brush resists tangling and the bin is emptied often. They don’t replace a deep clean of thick carpets.
Why are the US and UK picks different models?
Roborock sells the Q7 M5+ in the US and the Q7 L5+ in the UK. Both have the anti-tangle system and the same 7-week dock; the US model has more suction.
How often do I change the dock bag?
Roborock rates the bag for up to 7 weeks, but a heavily shedding pet will fill it sooner. Spare bags are cheap, about £27 for six in the UK.
Should I get one that mops too?
Both Roborocks mop as well, which helps with paw prints. With pets, keep the robot out of food and water bowl areas using no-go zones in the app.
